Nitrimidazine (Naxogin) compared with metronidazole (Flagyl) in the treatment of trichomonal vaginitis.

چکیده
For more than 10 years very satisfactory results have been obtained in the treatment of trichomonal vaginitis using the standard 7-day course of metronidazole 200 mg. three times a day (Rodin, King, Nicol, and Barrow, 1960). In a recent trial it was shown that a 5-day course of 400 mg. twice daily produced equally satisfactory results, and was probably an easier regime from the patient's point of view (McClean, 1971). Nitrimidazine (Naxogin) is a related compound introduced in Italy for treatment of the same condition, and equally satisfactory or better results are claimed for it when used at a dosage of 250 mg. twice daily for 6 days (Emanueli and de Carneri, 1969; Signorelli and Emanueli, 1969). In the trial to be described the two compounds

Nitrimidazine compared with metronidazole in the treatment of vaginal trichomoniasis.
A new substituted nitroimidazole, nitrimidazine (Naxogin), is compared with the established drug, metronidazole (Flagyl), for the treatment of vaginal trichomoniasis in a randomized double-blind trial. Nitrimidazine cured 39 (68%) out of 57 patients and showed no undesirable effects other than nausea in one patient. Metronidazole cured 51 (89%) out of 57 patients and also caused nausea in one p...
متن کاملDetection of the antitrichomonal drug nitrimidazine (Naxogin) in urine.
For 10 years vaginal trichomoniasis has been treated by oral chemotherapy. Some cases appear not to respond satisfactorily to the drug used, and it is important to know whether or not the patient is taking the drug, and if so, whether or not it is being absorbed from the alimentary tract. A simple method for detecting these drugs in urine may be of use in such cases. Two antitrichomonal drugs i...
متن کاملNifuratel compared with metronidazole in the treatment of trichomonal vaginitis.
Nifuratel (Magmilor) was compared with metronidazole (Flagyl) in the treatment of trichomonal vaginitis by a randomized double-blind trial. Only 18 out of 47 patients (38%) treated with nifuratel were found to be cured, whereas 42 out of 49 patients (85%) treated with metronidazole were cured. Severe reactions, necessitating withdrawal of treatment, occurred in three patients treated with nifur...
متن کاملVaginal moniliasis after treatment of trichomonal infection with "Flagyl".
There is some difference of opinion regarding the incidence of vaginal thrush following the treatment of trichomonal vaginitis with the new oral trichomonicide, metronidazole ("Flagyl"). Rees (1960) and Rodin, King, Nicol, and Barrow (1960) concluded that metronidazole neither encouraged nor inhibited the growth of the fungus concerned. Watt and Jennison (1960) found coincident monilial infecti...
متن کاملTrichomonal vaginitis treated with one dose of metronidazole.
Since its introduction in France, metronidazole (Flagyl) has become the standard treatment for trichomonal vaginitis (Durel, Roiron, Siboulet, and Borel, 1959). The course recommended at that time and continued ever since was 200 mg. three times daily for 7 days, giving a cure rate of 85 to 98 per cent. (Csonka, 1963; Evans and Catterall, 1970; Keighley, 1971). We have investigated the possibil...
